Carlos Raúl Acevedo Avila

produced and directed Dramarama’s first event in July 1993 (Mona Lisa) in Puerto Rico’s most important theatre stage: Sala de Drama del Centro de Bellas Artes Luis A. Ferré. From there, Carlos has produced 58 shows for Dramarama, and directed and/or wrote or adapted many of them. As a playwright, Carlos has won three times the award “Playwright of the Year” by the Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña. Now producing for Dramarama in Dallas, Texas, Miami, Florida and Puerto Rico in both Spanish and language shows, Carlos keeps growing in scope while still working for other theatre companies as actor/director, and on television as an actor and producer.

As a playwright, some original credits include; A Pluribus Unum, Boricua en la Luna, Cierra Los Ojos, Johnny Le Du, Crackerjack, Mona Lisa, Pornografía, La Historia de la Creación, Paranoia Puertorriqueña among others. His adaptations include the World Premiere play adaptation of the novel “Eleven Minutes” by world renowned author Paulo Coelho, honour granted by Mr. Coelho and his publication agency in Spain, after Carlos’s very successful play adaptation of another Coelho novel; “Veronika Decides to Die”, which was a Las Americas premiere. Carlos was also granted the rights for the play adaptation of the Oscar winning film All About My Mother by master director/writer Pedro Almodóvar. Other book adaptations include Don Quijote de La Mancha (from the novel by Cervantes), Lazarillo De Tormes and more.

As a Director, some of Carlos’s credits include; Romeo & Juliet, All About My Mother, The Crucible, Glengarry Glen Ross, The Mousetrap, a hip hop musical version of the Carmen opera (Flow), Othello, Twelfth Night, Tus Compañeros de Cama, Don Quijote de La Mancha y El Principito amongst others.
